Trailer: Will Shyamalan Strike Back with “THE VISIT”?

Believe it or not, but this writer has never quite dismissed M. Night Shyamalan in the way that many critics and audiences alike have. To this writer, Shyamalan certainly has the talent to excel when given the right set of circumstances, and I’ve always believed that as his stories grew in scope, the suspense and tact that made the director so effective in THE SIXTH SENSE, UNBREAKABLE and SIGNS has become less ingratiated in his approach. However, if scope is Shyamalan’s big problem, then all logic would point to his latest film, Blumhouse’s THE VISIT, being a return to form for the once-lauded genre auteur as it appears to be his most intimate and creepy venture in years.

And now, audiences worldwide have a chance to see the first footage of THE VISIT in action, as the trailer has finally hit the net after a one-week exclusive attachment to theatrical prints of UNFRIENDED. While the trailer does have moments of late-career Shyamalan silliness, and an unfortunate found footage angle, the trailer also has a wealth of potential in its creepier fare. In fact, if executed right, perhaps those elements can co-exist and form something that’s more subversive than anything we’ve seen from Shyamalan… well, ever. In any case, you can check out the trailer for THE VISIT below, and keep an eye out for more on the film, which hits theaters on September 11th from Universal Pictures.
