Warner Bros. continues to develop new adaptation of Stephen King’s “THE STAND”

Ben Affleck, who’d been previously attached, is clearly busy being Batman. Now, the director of acclaimed Jeff Bridges-starring drama CRAZY HEART is close to helming a new adaptation of one of Stephen King’s most popular and enduring works.

THE STAND—which I am pretty terrible for having never read, nor seen the previous 1994 miniseries—tells the tale of an America depopulated by a massive plague and the battle been good and evil that erupts within different groups of survivors. The work birthed one of King’s most iconic characters, Randall Flagg, who later appeared in EYES OF THE DRAGON, the DARK TOWER series and more.

THR reports that Scott Cooper, of the aforementioned CRAZY HEART, is “in talks” to rewrite and direct the upcoming and long in-development new version. No word if, like DREDD, they’ll also reject the use of a fitting Antrhax song.
