What is up with the new “FRIDAY THE 13TH”? Producer Comments

Over the weekend, Crave Online spoke with Platinum Dunes producer Brad Fuller, who among other things of genre interest, is currently developing the highly anticipated return of FRIDAY THE 13TH. Of course, with the next film slated to be the 13th of the iconic series and rumors of a found footage view of Crystal Lake, interest is high. So, what’s the current status? Aside from nothing seemingly set in stone, Fuller’s answer may surprise you.

Putting aside any found footage talk for a brief minute, when  Fuller was asked about the possibility of Derek Mears donning the mask again, he explained:

“I don’t know because I don’t know if we’re going to have Jason, I don’t know which Jason we’re going to have. I can tell you this: I love Derek Mears, I love working with him and he’s a dream, so we’d be lucky to have him.”

What exactly does this mean? Will the new film be something of an entire reboot, resembling the first film despite the 2009 remake’s quick recapping of it in its opening minutes? Is ‘which Jason’ a hint the film may give us more time with the young, impaired and deformed boy who drowns?

As for the ever popular point-of-view medium, Fuller says:

“I’m well acquainted with some very loud members of the audience who hate found footage and I understand that. I think for us it’s more about what the story is and what’s the best way to tell it. Until we figure out exactly what the story is for the next Friday the 13th movie, I can’t tell you what it’s going to be.”

What I’d love to know is, what exactly is the reluctance to simply making a pure Jason film? Keep an eye on Fango for all FRIDAY news. The next installment of FRIDAY THE 13TH is slated for March 13, 2015.
